Welcome to Fine Wines Direct UK online store

At Fine Wines Direct we believe that the name of our company reflects our aims; that is to bring our customers the best wines at all levels from round the world. Between us, over the past fifty years, we have visited wineries in all six wine-producing continents and have made a host of contacts, which we have used in putting together this list. We are helped by the fact that we own our own bonded warehouse here in Cardiff, as this helps us to hold a broader range of stock on the premises. More than nine bottles in ten that we sell we have imported directly.

Most of the wines that we sell are exclusive to us in Wales and for others we have the sole agency for Britain. Some of the wines that we offer are making their first appearance on the British market, whilst others are long-standing favourites in South Wales.

France leads the way in most wine-merchants’ lists and it is the same for us. We are fortunate to have our own resident Welshman, Tony Gill,, resident in Bordeaux and he sources many of our wines, to back up the unequalled stocks that we have of top class wines. Amongst the châteaux that we feature, we can particularly recommend Paloumey, in the Haut-Médoc, which was rescued from total neglect by Martine Cazeneuve some twenty years ago and completely replanted, the range of wines from Plainpont, in Fronsac, Bellevue, a vineyard with a prime site on the côtes of Saint Emilion, and the outstanding white wine from Haut-Mondain.

In Burgundy we rely on three main sources for our wines. The most important of these is Michel Picard, based at the Château de Chassagne-Montrachet. This company has risen, in the past forty years from being a small wholesaler distributing to the cafés and bars around Chagny, to being the second most important wine company in the region, with extensive vineyard holdings on the Côte d’Or and the Côte Chalonnaise. Mazilly Père et Fils is based at Meloisey in the Hautes-Côtes, but also has vineyards in Pommard, Meursault, Volnay, Savigny, Beaune and Gevrey-Chambertin. These wines represent excellent value for money. When we visit the Mazillys, we might be welcomed by any one of three generations of the family. In Chablis, we are proud to import the wines of Domaine du Colombier.

In the Rhône valley, we have two specialist suppliers: in the north, we have a range of wines from Les Septentrionales, who are specialists in the syrah grape and have a small domaine at St-Joseph. In the south, we offer the range of wines of Les Grandes Serres, who have an estate at Châteauneuf du Pape. In the Loire, we have a number of suppliers and we are particularly proud of the Sancerre wines of Laporte and Salmon.
