Buy Argentinian Wine Online

Covering more than one million square miles, Argentina has proved itself a force to be reckoned with in the wine world. This vast South American country is one of the top wine producers in the world and has influences from Spain due to the colonisation of the Americas in the 16th century.

The country is home to a huge variety of landscapes from the rocky Andes to the Pampas lowlands. Argentina has a cornucopia of grapes that reflect the country’s large number of immigrant groups. For example, the French brought Malbec which now makes up most of Argentina’s best known and award winning wines.

Organic wines can easily be produced in the country. This is thanks to the high altitude and low humidity of many of the regions, keeping at bay problems such as insects, fungi and mould which are more prevalent in European countries.

Tell me more about the wine regions in Argentina

Thanks to being so vast and with a huge array of terroirs, all sorts of varieties are grown in Argentina.

Mendoza

Mendoza is the largest wine region in the country. It can be found on a high-altitude plateau at the edge of the Andes Mountains, and produces a great amount of Malbec. The typical climate across the region is hot sunny days followed by nights made cold by winds from the Andes. In addition to Malbec, other varieties grown in the region include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Syrah to name just a few.

Salta

Salta is in the far north of the country, and home to some of the world’s most extreme vineyards in terms of geography. Many are located in mountainous terrain, with some even reaching altitudes of 3000 feet. The mountains create a rain shadow over the vineyards, making for clear skies and low levels of rain. Grapes grown in the area include Malbec of course, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat and many more.

Catamarca

Catamarca is located in a remote corner of northwestern Argentina. Up until the 21st century, only table grapes were grown there. However, quality has vastly improved over the last few decades and there are now large numbers of Malbec, Syrah and Torrentes grown throughout the region.
