The vast southern French Languedoc region has some ideal spots for growing the finicky Pinot Noir grape.

It’s made at the oldest co-operative cellar in France (also voted ‘The Best’ by Le Revue du Vin de France). Wonderfully aromatic with complex notes of red fruits and liquorice. Full of flavour with smooth and gentle tannins.

Description

The Languedoc has a wealth of micro-climates ranging from baking hot (on the plains) to rather chilly (high in the hills). Here, if you find the right terroir (as the French call it), you can grow just about any grape with great results.

President of the century-old Foncalieu cellar, Michel Bataille, is a descendant of one of its original founding families and a man with a wealth of local knowledge. He and his team made a rigorous selection of fruit from ideal Pinot Noir vineyards on high sunny slopes across the Languedoc. In Le Versant, they have created an elegant wine with strong varietal character at a very attractive price.
