TOTAL TIME IN BARREL

12 months in French (60%) and American (40%) oak barrels, split equally between,

new barrels and 2, 3, & 4 year-old (maximum) barrels.

 

VINEYARDS AND YIELDS

Selection of parcels from 15-25 year-old vineyards, located in Rioja Alta (85%) and  Rioja Alavesa (15%).

 

GRAPE VARIETIES

85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha tinta, 5% Graciano

Marques de Caceres

Marques de Caceres was founded in 1970 by Henrique Forner, who had recently returned from living in Bordeaux, where his family had moved during the Spanish Civil War. Forner believed Rioja was too oaky and introduced measures to modernise its style. He was the first to use stainless steel fermentation and reduced the time his wines spent in barrel, he also used more new oak. These measures whilst radical at the time, have become much more prevalent across the region.
