At a generous 46% ABV, it has a classic freshness with aromas of cream toffee, rich fruit and raisins. The palate is crisp and finely rounded, with the sweetness to balance an appetising dryness. Notes of tropical fruit, raisins and vanilla persist in the finish.
The Penderyn Peated in this bottle has been aged in ex-bourbon barrels and ex-peated Scotch whisky casks to bring out its appealing character.
At a generous 46% ABV, it introduces itself with sweet, aromatic smoke. Under this there are signature notes of vanilla, green apple and refreshing citrus. An array of gentle flavours tempts even the most sophisticated palate, while smoke and vanilla linger on the attractive medium length finish
Nose Intense tropical fruit aromas of passionfruit, pineapple, lemon and orange peel with a touch on cinnamon and ginger.
Palate Smooth and oily textured. Even at the full 46% it is soft and easy to drink. Flavours of fresh pineapple, lemon, oranges, marmalade and ginger snap with some honey and oak.
Finish Becomes more malty and biscuity with the oak flavours also shining through.
Colour Bright gold in colour.
Nose Three shades of apple. Dry and yeasty stewed apple warmth, sour green apple gummies, and the leafier tang of green apples themselves. Beneath that, sap, cut grass, and orange cream soda which, after a little honey cuts the grasses with the creams, turns to actual orange peel. Leafier with water.
Palate Apple pie in a glass. Soft cinnamon, rich applesauce, a light zesty tang as if those apples were unripe, a slight trace of citrus peel and enough mouth-watering juice to bind the sauces to the fruits.
Finish Sandalwood edges round the lingering sauce. Dusty, dry, and even a little yeasty although the sweet green apple tang from the nose still sidles past the finish. One for the grey days.
