Tasting notes
Castro de Chibanes reserva from Adega Camolas is oaked blend of Castelão, Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet produced in the Palmela DO north west of Setubal. Dark, intense garnet colour. complex bouquet of red fruits, toasted coffee beans and mocha . In the mouth it has a balanced and lively acidity with elegant smooth body and well-rounded tannins. Long and persistent aftertaste with notes of dark chocolate.
Background
The “Adega Camolas” is a family business, adjacent to the Arrábida Natural Park located on the Setubal Peninsula, south of Lisbon, and have been producing wines since the 70’s. The brand “Camolas” finds its origin using the founder’s family name, one of the most emblematic in the Setubal region region. The “Castro de Chibanes”, are old Romaine remains that can be found all around the Setubal Peninsula. This red wine is a blend of Castelão, Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet, harvested from parcels located at the top of Serra do Louro, in Palmela in the Arrábida Natural Park. Castro de Chibanes Tinto arises from the idea of sharing and promoting the rich archaeological heritage of the Peninsula de Setubal. The grapes are hand harvested, vinifed in steel vats and aged for 6 months in French oak barrels.
Food Pairing
An ideal wine to accompany rich meat dishes, salted cod and octopus “lagareiro” style. Also great with hard cheeses. Service temperature between 16º and 18º.
