Tasting Notes
The Lunaka Pinot Noir from Aconcagua Chile is a bright, vibrant red in the glass.
On the nose its intense attack of fresh berry fruit and strong cassis character is married with elegant oak aromas.
The palette is full bodied, with a balancing acidity. Flavors are consistent with the aromatic profile
Background
The fruit for the Lunaka Pinot Noir was sourced 75% from the Casablanca Valley and 25% from their our own vineyard in the Leyda Valley. One vineyard is located in the eastern limit of Casablanca Valley, at the eastern edge, the mists tend to dissipate earlier, resulting in being slightly warmer here than the western areas of Casablanca. Fruit here is rich in cassis style and full bodied. The other vineyard is located in the western limit of Casablanca Valley. This is the coolest part of Casablanca, due to being closer to the ocean, and the lowest point, the sea mists linger longer and come in sooner. Fruit here is rich in fresh berry fruits aromas, crisp acidity and medium to full structure. The Leyda Vineyard has similar characteristics than the latter
The fermentation was realized in medium size open top fermenters, pushing the cap by hand to ensure a complete and gentle extraction process. Temperature is kept between 28 to 32º C, and there is a long post fermentation maceration on skins, of approximately 21 days. Following fermentation, this wine is kept with French oak staves for 4 months.
