In Mapuche language, Malma means “pride”. Malma wines are produced from manually harvested grapes from selected vineyards, and aged for 9 months in French and American oak. This adds a layer of complexity whilst the fresh fruitiness of the wines is mainteined and their unique Patagonia personality preserved.

The origin of NQN winery can be traced back to 2001, when in San Patricio del Chañar, the Viola family developed a winemaking project which was unthinkable at that time, and that involved the transformation of 2000 hectares of Patagonian dessert into an ideal bed of vineyards. NQN is part of this development, placed in a region of excellent weather conditions for vine growing and a wide temperature range, essential elements to reach a slow grape ripening, while favoring the accumulation of sugars, acids and flavors.
Malma Reserva de Familia Malbec is a great Malbec for wine geeks. Some Malbec drinkers might miss the forward ripe fruit notes typical of Malbec. Malma Malbec is what I imagine an old world Malbec would taste like. It is earthy with notes of sandlewood, leather and bramble balanced by notes of violets, black berries, plums and cassis. There are an array of spices on the lengthy finish. Malma Reserva de Familia Malbec has incredible finesse for the price. Its ample acidity makes it a great food pairing wine. I paired it with steak. Although the body stood up to the steak also I will pair it with slow cooking spiced lamb.
