Tasting Notes
This Meursault 1er Cru from Mazilly is bright, pale yellow gold with aromas of toasted hazelnuts, butter, honey and stone fruits. Exceptional depth and complexity with seamless oak integration. Long, minerally-dry finish.
Background
Domaine Mazilly has long been one of the most established Burgundian wine estates for several generations. Today it’s run by Frédéric and his son Aymeric who, with entrepreneurial zest, attend to every aspect of the business from vineyard management to winemaking, bottling and marketing. The Meursault 1er Cru is their most premium wine, a stylish white wine made from Chardonnay grapes. Meursault, has little to offer tourists and is a rather sleepy backwater whose streetscape suggests little of its wines’ enormous reputation. It really is all about wine. This splendid Meursault Premier Cru comes from Les Charmes, one the villages best-exposed vineyards. It was fermented in French oak barrels for extra depth and complexity.
