Tasting Notes
The Pesquera Reserva from Ribera del Duero has a rich and intense nose of sweet black fruit and sweet spice, such as vanilla and clove, from the oak maturation. Juicy dark fruit and floral flavours on the palate are balanced by defined acidity. There are hints of smokiness on the mid palate and the finish is long and persistent.
Background
Pesquera Tinto Reserva is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes, aged in American oak barrels for 24 months and then a further 12 months in the bottle.
Pesquera wines are always made from the whole fruit, after destemming. Temperature controlled fermentation lasts two to three weeks. Afterwards, and without clarifying, the grape pulp is directly transferred to an astute and subtle combination of French and American oak barrels that have been subject to various degrees of toasting. Where, in between frequent pump-overs, the wines are left to stand. Tinto Pesquera wines are aged in oak for 18 months while Reservas and Grandes Reservas are aged for no less than 24 months.
Food Match
Because of its full-bodied refined nature, it is accompanied well by small game dishes, grilled meat and even some stews.

93 points – Bodegas Alejandro Fernandez Ribera del Duero Pesquera Reserva 2019
“A rich red, compact at first, but with air this reveals flavors of blackberry paste and boysenberry coulis, plus tea leaves, fresh-milled pepper and rose hip. This wine’s detailed flavor range is layered with a core of dense, fine-grained tannins and a fragrant tang of balsamico acidity. Best from 2024 through 2034.”

In 1982, coinciding with the creation of the DO Ribera del Duero, Familia Fernández Rivera produced the first Janús Pesquera. It owes its name to the Roman god of time. Janús is only made with excellent vintages using grapes from Viña Alta, the highest vineyard of Tinto Pesquera
