The characteristics of Saladini Pilastri are its typical deep ruby colour, vinous bouquet and dry harmonic taste. It is produced from only the best Sangiovese and Montepulciano grapes, and mellowed in oak barrels. It is a wine which is at its best served at room temperature to accompany all kinds of roast meat and game.
Tasting Notes: Very intense ruby colour with slight grainy tones. Rich and persistent nose with a sophisticated, berry-scented bouquet revealing hints of almond extract, mint, and earth. Fresh and fruity palate that is well-structured with soft tannins, mellowed in French oak.
Just north of the Abruzzo nestled in the rolling hills behind the walled city of Ascoli Piceno lies the estate of Saladini Pilastri. They are one of the oldest families in the Marche and their 200 hectares includes the usual viticultural suspects (Trebbiano, Sangiovese and Montepulciano) as well as a few Rhône rangers including Viognier and Syrah. All the vineyards are farmed organically which is no hardship given the hot, dry summers.
