The peace and tranquillity of the cool climate Eden Valley is ideally suited to yielding the clean, pure flavours of Riesling.Minimal intervention enables the true characteristics of each vintage and the vines to speak for itself.

Description

Peace of Eden composes of fruit from two low-yielding vineyards on the Eastern facing slopes of the Barossa Ranges, a short distance from the town of Eden Valley. The elevation and topography of this Barossa district ensures the cool growing conditions necessary to grow elegant Riesling. Here the vineyard soils are light in colour and texture, with mica Schist sandy soils over sandstone and red-brown clay.

The grapes were de-stemmed, and placed in a tank press, where the free-run juice was immediately separated from the skins under reductive conditions. After three days of cold-settling, the clear juice was racked which underwent a cool, steady ferment. Utmost care was taken to minimise phenolics, and capture the delicate citrus-lime fragrance for which our Riesling is renowned.

Colour: Crystal clear, pale straw in colour with a green hue.

Aroma: Floral aromas of lemon zest and dried herbs accompanied by fresh green apple.

Palate: Amazingly fresh and bright, this Riesling has generous layers of granny smith apple, white nectarine and a concentrated citrus tang that gives a kick through the mid palate. The fruit sweetness is well balanced by the line of natural acidity throughout the wine, leaving a smooth mineral finish.

Food Match: Grilled prawn and avocado salad

St John's Road

Inspired after managing a B&B in the south of France, Vivien and the late Martin Rawlinson established St John's Road in 2001, with the vision to produce fruitful yet elegant wines which truly reflect the essence of the Barossa. Custodianship of St John's Road now rests with the motley bunch of Phil Lehmann, Dale Wyman and Jonathon Hesketh. Their aim is to uphold Vivian and Martin's vision of producing wines, which are not only true to the Barossa, but also to the estate vineyards where the wines are grown.
