Deep crimson with intense blackcurrants and violets on the nose, there are also notes of currant and mulberry fruit along with attractive savoury oak spice. The palate is smooth with good weight and balance, this really is a great example of a new world Cab.
The expressive nose gives a fresh fruit made of wild strawberries, red and black currants with herbal notes. Everything is surrounded by graphite and stony notes, soft spices coming from the barrels and touches of smoky brown tobacco. The mouth provides a good volume from the beginning, with a lot of roundness and a great balance between structure and texture.
The rich aroma is typical of the Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo grape varieties. Aromas of red and black berry fruit, green coffee beans, liquorice and the characteristic vanilla and leather notes from ageing. On the palate the wine is full and silky with dense, well-structured tannins.

In their youth, Chateau Musar Reds are dense and richly-textured, with intense ‘baked fruit’ characters: plums, damsons, cranberries, cherries, figs and dates. Bordeaux grape Cabernet Sauvignon lends black fruit flavours; Rhône grapes Cinsault and Carignan contribute fragrance (violets; pepper) and supple spiciness. Either set of qualities might dominate a particular vintage, but the style is always emphatically Lebanese: enticingly aromatic, with persistent fruit flavours. Over decades the wines acquire tawny hues and mellow notes.
