Villa Cosmiana Fattoressa Maddalena, Tuscany, Italy 2021

A historic white wine from the estate, which bears the name of the only female estate manager at the beginning of the 20^th century and which is produced from Trebbiano grapes harvested from a 50 year old plus vineyard and directly vinified in oak barrels. It has a shiny straw yellow colour and displays spicy and delicate wood perfumes with citrus fruit and mirabelle flavours in the mouth.

Maddalena Cambi

Maddalena Cambi, (1868-1915) was born to a sharecropper family on the estate and entered at a young age in service of the Antinori family. After the marriage of Maria Antinori with the Prince Aldobrandini and the subsequent transfer in dowry of the estate of Villa Cosmiana to the young spouse in 1891, she was appointed first house keeper of the villa, then co-intendant of the agricultural domaine until her premature death in 1915.  Her name is synonymous with the reputation for high quality agricultural products; in the name of the princess, she obtained a number of prizes at national agricultural fairs especially for the excellence of the table grapes, Colombana for which the Diploma from the Esposizione della Produzione Italiana ed Internazionale was awarded to Donna Maria Antinori Duchess of Brindisi Princess Aldobrandini in 1926.

Her name, Fattoressa Maddalena, has been given as a tribute to a traditional white wine made from selected Tuscan Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes vinified and matured in oak barrels.

Villa Cosmiana

Villa Cosmiana is the former Pisan wine estate of the Antinori family of the dukes of Brindisi situated between Pisa and Volterra. The prestigious estate which extends to over 30 hectares is situated around an aristocratic Villa surrounded by Italianate gardens, an English-style park and 15 vineyards of various Tuscan and Bordeaux grape varieties.

In its historic vaults, cellars and recently created cantina, Villa Cosmiana produces three traditional Tuscan wines (whites and reds) as well as two Super Tuscans created by the renowned and award-winning enologist Barbara Tamburini, awarded best enologist of Italy by the Italian Sommelier Association, Bibenda in 2019.

Today Villa Cosmiana is the vision of Abergevenny born Sean Craig who since 2018 has committed himself to re-building the vineyards and gardens of the Villa Cosmiana estate
