As recently as the 1990s, few people had heard of Viognier because it was largely limited to a tiny and quite expensive enclave in the northern Rhône called Condrieu. As its fame spread abroad however, so too did the vine. Le Versant replicates the exotic richness and aroma of Condrieu very well, especially given it costs a fraction of the price.
President of the century-old Foncalieu cellar, Michel Bataille, is a descendant of one of its original founding families and a man with a wealth of local knowledge. He and his team made a rigorous selection of fruit from Viognier vineyards where the micro climate is similar to the northern Rhône’s. In Le Versant, they have created a lavish yet remarkably fresh dry wine at a very attractive price.
Beautiful yellow colour with green glints. Intense nose of apricots, ripe peach and exotic fruits. The palate has a fresh crisp acidity and a long lingering finish.
