Allan Scott Family Winemakers

Our friend, Allan Scott is one of the iconic figures in the short history of the wine trade in Marlborough. As a viticulturist, he was deeply involved in planting some of the region’s most famous vineyards, including the first. A Kiwi family operated business who are passionate about their products to ensure you have a memorable experience with each wine, whatever your taste. The Scott name is on the bottle, so the family stands behind everything they make.

More recently, Allan Scott has established Scott Base winery in Central Otago with the Scott Base Pinot Noir scoring Gold 95+ points at the New World Wine Awards 2019.

Founder, Allan Scott, is among the most respected in his field. A deep-rooted passion and knowledge for wine making allowed him and wife Cathy to set up what was Marlborough’s first independent winery crafting all sorts of wines including red, white and rose types. Today, the winery has really made a name for itself crafting incredible wines including Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Cecilia Brut.

Taking advantage of their expertise in vineyard planting, as well as the natural environment that sees Marlborough as one of the world’s most famous wine making regions, the family’s multiple vineyards each have their own personality, producing unique wines distinctive of the methods and processes implemented at each location.

Allan Scott Family Winemakers offer products that come with a guarantee of quality, from the soil used to grow the grapes, to the taste of the final product. It is what makes them one of Marlborough’s most revered and respected winemakers. Find out more about the winery and what we sell here at Fine Wines Direct UK.

The Vineyards

Each of the family vineyards are specially designed to take advantage of nutrient rich soils and environmental conditions present in the Marlborough region. Quality wine requires quality grapes, and these vineyards all have their own unique growing process to produce the very best grapes for a variety of wines.

Allan Scott owns four main vineyards:

The Moorlands Vineyard

Adjoining the winery, the Moorlands Vineyard was one of the very first in the Marlborough region, having been planted in 1980. Re-development has taken place to modernise and alter the growth process for the purpose of producing the finest Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.

The Wallops Vineyard

As part of contracting work, the Allan Scott Family Winemakers planted this vineyard for another winery in the 1980s. This is home to the very best in Sauvignon Blanc production. Offering a patch for Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, it is also home to the nursery for planting rootstock and budwood

The Hounds Vineyard

Bordering the Wallops Vineyard, The Hounds became part of the Allan Scott wine family in 2004 and serves to produce Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Omaka Vineyard

Allan Scott acquired this vineyard in 2000. It is now home to ranges of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Riesling, with sections to grow grapes for Merlot, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Part of the original bed of the Omaka River, the soils are free draining, with the natural surroundings and environment expertly incorporated into the makeup of the vineyard.

All the Vineyards are in keeping with the reputation of the Marlborough region and its fame for the finest in wine making. Each vineyard has its own specialty function, with great care given to ensuring each bottle of wine is made with a quality of grape only perfect conditions and meticulous planting can produce.

The Wine

The expertise behind the planting of vineyards combined with the natural conditions provided by the nutrient rich lands of Marlborough, means the wine offered by Allan Scott Family Winemakers is of distinct quality time and time again.

Appealing to many  preferences, Allan Scott offers the punchy fruit-forward flavour of the 2019 Chardonnay, with stone fruit, pear and almond aromas complemented by a scrumptious mouthfeel from its time in oak. Delicious on its own, this wine is the perfect pairing to seafood chowder or tuna steak.

The 2021 Allan Scott Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a zesty, crisp and refreshing experience. This award-winning wine is a true category benchmark, with notes of tropical fruit and a delightfully dry finish. This Sauvignon is wonderful with fresh seafood, or British classic fish and chips.

There is a story behind the origin of every bottle and the recipes developed over time at the winery. The complexity of the flavours and aromas reflect the care and consideration put into the whole process, with each range a fitting representation of 40 years’ experience in the winemaking industry.
